LVP Installation inscructions for Do it yourself installers
COREtec LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) flooring is a popular type of flooring that is known for its durability, ease of maintenance, and ability to mimic the look of natural hardwood floors. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install COREtec LVP flooring:
Materials needed:
- COREtec LVP flooring
- Underlayment (if needed)
- Tape measure
- Chalk line
- Square
- Utility knife
- Hammer
- Pull bar
- Spacers
- Tapping block
- Rubber mallet
- Saw or snap cutter
Step 1: Prepare the subfloor The subfloor should be clean, dry, and level before installing the COREtec LVP flooring. If the subfloor is concrete, make sure it is fully cured and free from any moisture. If it is a wooden subfloor, ensure there are no nails or screws sticking out, and make sure the floorboards are firmly in place.
Step 2: Acclimation of SPC (stone polymer composite) material is not required but you should install the floor in a room that is kept at a comfortable temperature between 55° – 85°F (13°-29°C) a 48hr Acclimation period may be required for WPC (wood polymer core products)
Step 3: Measure the room Measure the length and width of the room to determine the total square footage of the area. It is important to have extra flooring on hand, so it is recommended to add 5-10% to the total square footage to account for waste.
Step 4: Install the underlayment (if needed) If you are installing the COREtec LVP flooring over a concrete subfloor, it is recommended to use an underlayment. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to install the underlayment.
Step 5: Determine the layout Determine the layout of the planks by laying them out on the floor. Start by finding the center of the room and snapping a chalk line from one wall to the opposite wall. This will create a guide for the first row of planks.
Step 6: Install the first row Start in one corner of the room and place the first plank with the tongue side facing the wall. Use spacers to maintain a gap between the plank and the wall. Install the second plank by inserting the tongue into the groove of the first plank, then gently pushing down until it snaps into place. Continue installing planks in this manner until you reach the end of the row. If necessary, cut the last plank to fit using a saw or cutter.
Step 7: Install subsequent rows Start the second row with the cut piece from the first row to ensure a staggered pattern. Insert the tongue of the plank into the groove of the previous row and gently tap it into place using a tapping block and rubber mallet. Use spacers to maintain a gap between the planks and the wall. Continue installing planks in this manner until you reach the last row.
Step 8: Cut planks to fit Measure and cut planks as necessary to fit around corners, doorways, or other obstacles in the room. Use a square and a utility knife to score the plank, then snap it along the score line. Use a pull bar to tap the plank into place.
Step 9: Install the final row Measure and cut the planks for the final row to fit the remaining space. Use a pull bar and rubber mallet to tap the planks into place.
Step 10: Install baseboards and trim Install baseboards and trim around the perimeter of the room to cover the expansion gap between the planks and the wall.
Overall, the installation process for COREtec LVP flooring is relatively straightforward, but it does require attention to detail and precision. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions
